I’ve learned a lot in my first full year running my VA business — the highs, the messy parts, the moments that made me proud, and the ones that made me cry.
But if I had to boil it all down to one thing that helped me scale, it wouldn’t be a tool or a trick.
It would be this:
Getting clear on how I wanted to serve — and owning it.
Let me explain.
When I started, I didn’t have a niche. I just knew I could help with inboxes, systems, content, follow-ups, and whatever else clients needed.
And that worked… for a while. But after a few months, I realized I was stretching myself too thin trying to be everything to everyone. I was overdelivering, undercharging, and constantly playing catch-up.
The Shift: I Got Clear on What I Was Great At
One day, I made a list:
What do I LOVE doing for clients?
What do I dread doing?
What makes clients say “You’re a lifesaver”?
From that list, I realized my sweet spot was behind-the-scenes support — systems, onboarding, inboxes, and communication.
Once I owned that niche, everything changed:
I updated my services to reflect my strengths
I raised my prices to reflect the transformation
I attracted the right clients instead of chasing the wrong ones
Clarity Creates Confidence
When you’re clear about how you help, you start showing up differently — in discovery calls, in your marketing, in the way you talk about your business.
You start building your reputation, not just a client list.
You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone
If you’re still in the early stages of your VA journey, my advice is this:
Say yes to learning
Track what lights you up
And get guidance from people who’ve done it before
One course I highly recommend is The Roadmap Rebellion. It’s built for aspiring business owners & VAs who want to start strong, serve well, and grow with confidence — without wasting time or money.
It walks you through everything from services to setup to help sign your first client with motivation — and helps you build a business you’re proud of.
You don’t need to be perfect to start. But you do need to start to get clear.
